Writing Directing Coaching

I was first published in 2004, but was writing for at least a decade before that. I'm a huge believer in the therapeutic value of writing, and know I would keep writing even if I wasn't being paid to.

I write in most forms - books, scripts, speeches - and I'm equally comfortable working from my own ideas and based on client or publisher requirements.

A lot of my written work is linked to the work I do as a director and coach, specifically in the corporate learning and development sphere. 

Organisational and individual change are both key themes in my work as a writer and the heart of storytelling, which is central to my model of practice as a coach.

My first directing job was was a series of short films for use in a corporate training event. The budget was tight, the schedule relentless and the material somewhat dry.

The lessons I learnt on that job are ones I've tried to hold with every directing job since.

The need to be adaptable, and accept that complications on a shoot are inevitable. 

The importance of moving fast but recognising the need to take a moment when it counts.

And above all to do whatever you can to keep your crew and cast happy.

I've mainly kept to the corporate sector. I'm happy directing both actors and non-actors. I prefer working with natural light when I can but have considerable studio experience too.

I can operate a camera but I'm not a self-shooting director, though I know several I can recommend. Similarly, I prefer to have a professional editor cut my work rather than do it myself, and I've been lucky to meet and work with some amazing editors who I know have helped taken what I've shot to another level.

I've been working in corporate training and development since 2000, and gained a diploma in executive coaching in 2012.

Whilst I continue to offer one-to-one sessions, the majority of my work is in designing and delivering programmes for a wider audience.

In addition to one-to-one coaching I design and write programmes for wider groups, teams and organisations, sometimes alone and sometimes as part of a team.

From 2014 I was part of the team responsible for designing and delivering a series of award winning programmes for TfL as part of their Fit for the Future Change Management Programme. Specific topics I contributed on were Stakeholder Mapping, Fact Finding and Investigation, and Conflict Management and Workplace Violence.
